Re: Computer so slow it's hardly usable

Lynda, I think that you only have 1 HDD, and "Drive D:" is actually on C: & is for restoring your PC back to how it was when you bought it. Do you reboot often? If not I would switch off, and on again. I would use System Restore to go back to a time when the PC worked well. Or transfer...

Re: The Budget

To make the tax system fairer, the government will restrict the amount of Income Tax relief landlords can get on residential property finance costs (such as mortgage interest) to the basic rate of tax. This will ensure that landlords with higher incomes no longer receive the most generous tax treat...

Re: The Budget

Hi Steve, Here in sunny Fuerteventura the budget seems a lifetime away. The change to Wear & Tear starts in April 2016 & will affect some more than others, for instance the Wear & Tear allowance is very valuable to me, probably my best tax break, yet Lisa doesn't use it at all preferring...

Re: My House Stinks!

No drinks allowed in carpeted rooms. :(

In fact shewhomustbeobeyed has laid "paths" of off-cuts which I am not allowed to step off onto the real carpet. I'm not allowed either shoes, or bare feet.

Re: My House Stinks!

Weird! Our decoration is going well - our builder's decorator is shite, so I went back to a good decorator I used 12 years ago who has now grown and uses other people, so we have signed up the subby for Saturday work - he really is fantastic. I've got a feeling that I am repeating myself, but when y...

Re: MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE ....

Hahahaha - tell us all (well that's me Lynda and Keif) about this house move that you are doing across the Loch. Is this to get away from that pig of a neighbour that you had?

Re: Printers

Is it a network printer? If so try using it over USB.

Re: Printers

Yes - I wouldn't normally buy a printer off ebay, my Lexmark was an exceptional bargain, and my Epson came from Amazon. However printers are odd - inkjet printers are really cheap, but the ink is expensive (the same price as the printer). I tend to buy a cheap one, buy cheap compatible ink, and then...

Re: Property Partner

Rob, It's a good point that they could make their money on the management - in which case maybe they could provide a decent investment (by equity standards) - say BTL with 10% return, they make a 3% management charge (probably a reasonable estimate of the cost of managing a BTL Portfolio yielding 10...

Re: Printers

I'm not sure it really matters TBH. I had a Lexmark which was fine until the printheads clogged up, mine always do, I suspect because I use compatible ink. I've replaced it with an Epson. The Epson has a better document feed, but the Lexmark s/w was easier to use. I bought the Lexmark on eBay for £2...

Re: Property Partner

It's a sales led business model (9 out of 10 of the management team). As such it's like most of the other property propositions - making money from the froth rather than the underlying business. I would only invest if there were major legal changes to rental law which made renting less expensive fro...

Re: Property Partner

I wouldn't because knowing a bit about BTL I think that until housing law changes to something more rational the business is far too haphazard for this sort of mature investment market. The people behind Property Partners carry great credentials (founders of Zoopla & Betfair) however the whole t...

Re: Solar Panels

Talking to a friend last night who claims his system cost £4500 and is returning over £1000 a year I think that's plausible, but at the top end of achievable. I'm currently saving £1/day and being paid 50p/day from a system that cost £7k, but it's winter so it'll be dramatically better later in the...
