Quoting in Pairs

:chores-mop: :chores-laundry: The biggest single thing that I clean up is pairing of quotes. I fully understand why it happens - even after all these years of running this board, I still get my quote pairs wrong whilst editing quotebacks. So I thought it was worth spelling out how quotebacks work:

Named Quotebacks

When you click on the "Quote" button on the far right you get to quoteback the person that you are replying to, like this:

The Poster wrote:even after all these years of running this board, I still get my quote pairs wrong whilst editing quotebacks.

However - notice that I have manually changed the quoteback, which anyone can do in their post. You can put anything in quotes, & then attribute by adding ="The Poster"

Code: Select all
[quote="The Poster"]even after all these years of running this board, I still get my quote pairs wrong whilst editing quotebacks.[/quote]

Nested Quotebacks

This is the beggar that we all go wrong on.

That was achieved with this:

Code: Select all
[quote="D"]
[quote]
[quote="N"]
When you click on the "Quote" button on the far right you get to quoteback the person that you are replying to
[/quote]
even after all these years of running this board, I still get my quote pairs wrong whilst editing quotebacks.
[/quote]

[/quote]

Now I split that sequence into separate lines so you can see how the quote tags pair up. They form nested pairs.

Nested quotes are a great features. Are a little complex however. Still working on learning these.
