I really hope Manchester United win tonight!

The rescued Chilean miners are going to be at the match and it would be a shame if United lost. :D

I didn't know about that!

The 23 men – all wearing United shirts – were greeted by legend Sir Bobby as they arrived for a two-day visit as VIP guests of the Reds. They are expected to meet the first team and will be guests of honour at United’s clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford tonight.

The 33 survivors captured hearts across the globe by staying alive for more than two months in darkness before being finally rescued. They have now taken up an invitation to visit Old Trafford made by Sir Bobby when he visited Chile in the autumn.

United director Sir Bobby – who was raised in a mining village – told them: “Firstly, I can’t believe it, these are the same people that the whole world dropped everything for. I’m here today to say I’m proud.”

I think that is really lovely.

I've got some bizarre bets on for top of the table

Chelsea 100 £0.02 £1.98
Man Utd 1.4 £2.00 £0.80
Man City 3 £2.00 £4.00
Man City 4.3 £3.00 £9.90
Tottenham 3 £0.21 £0.42
Tottenham15.5 £0.17 £2.47

I don't think that is followable, I've got 2p on Chelsea at 100/1 (!) dunno who took that! Basically I've laid Man City at 2/1 & backed them at 2/1 & 3.3/1 consequently I win £3.32p if City finish top, lose £3.40p if Arsenal do & pence if anyone else does.

Last of the big spenders!

I'm thoroughly peed off with my fantasy team - I got 4 points (all from Elmander, my captain). Basically my players didn't play because of the snow! I see that happened to Rob and a few others too, but I am still peed off as it's the second time it's happened - I lost out big time when the Man U v Blackpool game was cancelled.

Macheda's Agent wrote:"There was a late morning meeting to conclude the loan transfer of Federico Macheda to Sampdoria," said Bia.
"Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to talk to the blucerchiati managers and so I believe the deal will be completed today and Macheda could arrive in Genoa tomorrow."

Far more interesting would be Beckham & Ronaldhino playing for Blackburn Rovers ....... in the Championship!

It's a shame Hull went down, I wonder if Blackpool will do the same? A shame for the game. They are already talking about other Premiership poaching Blackpool players in the window.

Derby week is approaching:

West Ham V Arsenal 15 Jan 17:30
Birmingham V Aston Villa 16 Jan 12:00
Sunderland V Newcastle 16 Jan 12:00
Liverpool V Everton 16 Jan 14:05

Hodgsons gone

IMHO a great pity, a clever manager who's been let down by the players

but a little chance here for a profit, a small wager on Liverpool to beat United tomorrow, as changing managers often changes things, which is weird cos often the new guy hasn't even had a proper training session etc and still has the same coaches etc, but the players have a different attitude

Decent odds on betfair on Liverpool to win !

Hi Keith,

It's a shame Hodgeson's gone but it's not quite as stupid as Chris Hughton. I you can't blame the manager you have to blame the owner/management so we know who will carry the can. Mourhino got £5m & a Champions League Title, Chelsea got 3 more managers (soon to be 4).

I use Betfair - you can get weird odds if you are clever. I'm just playing really, I put £25 in last year and when it's gone I'll close the account. For the Chelsea v Arsenal game I backed all 3 outcomes with £12 & won 78p Arsenal winning was the worst outcome for my bets, a draw would have netted me £5.

Last Year I turned my £25 into £220, and then lost a big chunk of it.

Currently I have £131 in matched bets (including a bet which will win me £150 if Arsenal win the Carling Cup - I've laid some of that now), & a £28 balance. As I only have £28 to play with I'm betting small amounts.

As for the FA Cup - yes maybe at 9/2 Liverpool are worth a punt - what about 12/5 for a sending off? A lot of people seem to think it's likely!

Given Vidic's record of sendings off against Liverpool that's fair odds

I've opened a betfair account today ( cos I got cashback via quidco ! )

I'm already up cos I backed the Scunthorpe Everton game to produce more than 2.5 goals :D

I've had a dabble on Liverpool winning tomorrow

I like the concept of being able to "lay bets" but dunno if I can get the bottle to lay say all the runners in the Grand National - most years you would double your money at least

Betfair take more money out than you would think - there is a 5% levy on winnings, and then 5% on money you withdraw. Shouldn't affect me too much as eventually I expect to lose all my money, but hopefully it will take a few years. There are a number of companies which have automatic betting systems hitched into the Betfair system. If you go to a thinly traded bet & place some bets out you instantly see a pile of other bets get offered, I haven't completely worked out how it operates, but if you put money into the ring other money gets offered by some computer systems.

Laying is useful, e.g. I've laid my Arsenal Carling Cup bet, but it does use up a lot of money. I've got £3 on Nani to be top goal scorer at 200/1 - I could have laid that at 90/1 & guaranteed a profit but it would have meant putting £270 into betfair.

Nick,

in the past when I had a pretty huge bet going ( £20 @ 25-1 on the darkness being Xmas number 1 ) it let me lay them to be number 1 * @ 4-6 from the potential profit, does it not do that now ?

Dunno about that specific bet, but i think it demonstrates exactly what I was referring to - you can take both sides of a bet & make a profit whatever the outcome

Well what do you know

Dalglish criticises the referee and calls the penalty a joke as I remember he got a lot of very soft penalties.

and as to Ryan Babel I hope the FA ban him for 3 games for bringing the game into disrepute.

and finally whilst I rant El Hadj Diouf should get a long ban for what he said to that poor guy yesterday
