"They may torture my body, break my bones, even kill me-then they will have my dead body, not my obedience." ~Mahatma Gandhi

"Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace." ~Buddha

"No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path." ~Buddha

"Earth laughs in flowers." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

“For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.”

“If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were.”

“Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.”

“If your happiness depends on what somebody else does, I guess you do have a problem.”

“Avoid problems, and you'll never be the one who overcame them.”

“I don't know why I should have to learn Algebra... I'm never likely to go there.”

“Some people are like Slinkies - not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.”

“The human race has been set up. Someone, somewhere, is playing a practical joke on us. Apparently, women need to feel loved to have sex. Men need to have sex to feel loved. How do we ever get started?”

There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics

The only things certain in life are death and taxes

And Winston Churchill's response to Lady Astor's comment: Mr. Churchill, you're drunk!" Winston Churchill: "Yes, and you, Madam, are ugly. But tomorrow, I shall be sober

My all time favourite "There is no wealth but life"

I also like these others by Ruskin

There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man's lawful prey.

When a man is wrapped up in himself, he makes a pretty small package.

I love all the usual common phrases too.....too many cooks......people who live in glass houses...etc etc I use them all the time......often get the words mixed up and keep thinking I must buy a book of them......there's always one to fit every situation

"The Batsmans Holding the Bowlers Willey" Brian Johnstome

"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that". Bill Shankley
