Self (gas) Cert?

Postby Rachel » Fri Feb 28, 2014 9:25 pm

Suppose a tenant is a plumber and is gas safe registered (if that's the term) and the gas safe cert is due to expire during his tenancy; can he carry out the next test and issue the cert?

I could save a few bob on call out fees.

I'm sure there's no problem, but can't seem to find any official info.

What do you think?

I think if you were a Gas Safe Engineer you could certify your own property, so I don't see why a Gas Safe Engineer can't certify their Landlord's property - but I'll tell you what, I bet that if I am wrong a Welsh Gas Safe Engineer will tell me before the night is out ...........

I am out so I will be brief, yes no probs he can certify his own work, same as a Leccy, watch out for conflicts of interest with value of works verses rent etc

As long as he's a good Gas Safe engineer. One installed my new boiler three years ago and as well as demolishing all electrics on one side of the kitchen - beyond repair - he made five mistakes that Gas Safe had to make him put right.

I had hell's own job getting Gas Safe to make an inspection but afterwards they were very apologetic that they hadn't believed one of their "safe" engineers was a cowboy.
