What Time Is It?

It always used to be said that if you wanted to know the time you should ask a Policeman.

Someone used the freedom of information act to ask the Metropolitan Police how much money they spent phoning the speaking clock to find out the time. The answer is staggering:

In 2009-2010 the Met spent £18,401.65 on calling the speaking clock, and another £16,879.30 in 2010-11. OK - so the Met has 31000 officers, but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy them all a watch?

Oh - & if you want to know the time - this one is on me:

I'm sure I would have enjoyed it too if only Flash Player worked for me.
