And its exterior is pretty much completely made from glass...so be sure not to throw any rocks at it!

Nice picture btw.

I must be old-fashioned. I think it's a hideous building.

People said similar things about the London Eye which can be seen in the background of that photo. Yet now it is seen as an iconic representation of London. Great discussion - I think I might write a blog about it!

Shard Update (bit late sorry):

On Friday, Mace's project team at the Shard achieved its latest milestone as it successfully lifted the final section of steel into place. Now at its full height of 310m, which takes the iconic landmark building to an equivalent of 95 floors, the project is edging closer to completion.
The achievement marks the last piece of steel slotting into the Shard’s third and final phase which involved the UK’s highest crane – currently sitting 317m above the Capital – lifting around 500 tonnes of steel to the top of the Shard. It has taken around 100 crane lifts to construct the final section’s steelwork which comprises a total of 800 separate pieces of steel. In addition to the steel the final stage is being clad in 516 panes of glass, forming a relatively small part of near 11,000 panes that have been used to clad the Shard overall.
Acting as principal contractor on the development in conjunction with WSP (engineers) and Severfield Reeve Structures (steel), Mace provided the logistics for the exercise.
It is anticipated that the Shard, which forms part of the 2,000,000 sq ft London Bridge Quarter development, will be externally completed in June – coinciding with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the eagerly anticipated London Olympics.
London Bridge Quarter, which also includes The Place, a 600,000 sq ft gross office building, the Shard Plaza, a new public space, new station concourse and bus station, will be fully completed by the end of the first quarter 2013.
Irvine Sellar, Chairman of Sellar Property Group, said: “This is another milestone in the development of the Shard which has become a global iconic landmark building. The Shard is making a positive impact on London’s skyline and there is discernible excitement among Londoners as the building nears completion. It is a ‘vertical town’ that includes a viewing gallery, restaurants, and a five star Shangri-La Hotel, which will all be open to the public, as well as residences and offices.”
Gareth Lewis, Chief Operating Officer for main contractor Mace, said: “We have now reached the summit of the Shard safely and on time. Lifting the final seven tonne section into place to bring the structure to its full 310 metre height is a great achievement by the whole team.”
